Happy World Creativity & Innovation Day!

1️ Innovation is all about dreaming up new solutions to age-old problems. NomadiLab started as a response to the droughts which occurred in Somalia in 2017 by bringing the technology of geo-spatial mapping to humanitarian response. One small team of tech volunteers based in Stockholm, Sweden 🇸🇪 would then go on to create Somalia’s first pandemic response mapping platform to respond to Covid-19 effectively.

2️Now, we are embarking on an ambitious project to upgrade health records in Somalia through the HADDA programme. Health information system is one of the building blocks for a functioning healthcare. This includes data collection and management to support national health care policy decisions. This is fundamental for an effective health management information system (HMIS) has further been intensified in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Our goal is to enable every Somali citizen to be able to access quality healthcare by enabling their providers to access data flexibly and responsively.

3️We’re also making sure that the global diaspora community is a part of this movement. Connect Somalia is a game-changing initiative that aims to empower the Somali diaspora in Sweden and the Nordic countries to make a difference in their home country's healthcare system. Connect Somalia brings together healthcare professionals from the diaspora to contribute via an online portal. Through their creativity and innovation, these professionals will provide virtual clinical consultations, mentoring, training, and support to local healthcare providers and policy makers, overcoming geographical and infrastructure barriers to enhance access and quality to the healthcare system in Somalia.

4️Diaspora are usually the first responders in times of crisis, while being one of the biggest investors in the development of Somalia. With their diverse skills and qualifications, diaspora healthcare professionals have the power to bring about positive change in the healthcare landscape of Somalia.

5️As we celebrate World Creativity & Innovation Day, let us be inspired by the Connect Somalia initiative, which will showcase the incredible potential of creativity and innovation in humanitarian and development efforts. It is a testament to the unwavering spirit and commitment of the Somali diaspora to make a momentous impact in their home country. Let us continue to support and amplify their efforts, as they use their skills, expertise, and innovative enterprise using human centric technology to connect Somalia and transform its healthcare system for the better.

6️If you are a member of the diaspora community who believes you might have skills to offer or you’re interested in learning more about the HADDA programme, please get in touch with us at info@nomadilab.org
