Nomad Innovation Lab
Nomad Innovation Lab (NIL) is a non-profit organization founded in 2017 by Somali-Swedish intellectuals with a shared desire to contribute to the rebuilding of Somalia. NIL is registered and licensed as Nomad Innovation Lab in Sweden and Somalia. Our goal is to establish systems and environments that impact lives and empower individuals through hope, technology, innovation, training, and economic opportunities.
NIL’s vision is to empower innovators, entrepreneurs, and youth in Somalia to address the country’s complex social problems through data and technology. We aim to achieve this by creating platforms that positively impact people’s lives and empower individuals through hope, technology, innovation, training, and economic opportunities.
At NIL, we have several objectives that we strive to achieve. These include promoting the use of innovative technology to overcome Somalia’s crisis, empowering young people with technology skills, supporting the strengthening of institutions in Somalia, contributing to national capacity building and professional workforce development, and supporting the achievement of Agenda 2030/Sustainable Development Goals and the African Union Agenda 2063. We also have a specific focus on engaging women in technology, business, and young innovators in Somalia.
Since our inception in 2017, we have impacted thousands of lives through the platforms we have created and developed. Some of the notable systems we have created include the Abaaraha crisis Mapping platform and the Covid-19 monitoring and tracking platform for Somalia.
Our efforts have not gone unnoticed, and we have been nominated and shortlisted for various international awards, including the Momentum For Change of UN’s Climate Change Secretariat Award and Somali International Award. We have also been invited as a keynote speaker at various conferences, including an International GIS conference at Yale.
